Durham Central is an independent community website serving Durham Region, Ontario. This policy explains how information is collected and used when you browse the site, register an account, manage a business listing or contact us.
Information we collect
Business accounts provide a name, email address and password. We store password hashes rather than readable passwords. Listings can include business details, products and services, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, website links, photographs and promotions. Claim and removal requests collect the business name, your name, phone number, email address and request details.
We also keep records needed to verify accounts, process claims and password resets, prevent abuse and administer the directory. These include verification records and an activity log of registrations, additions, claims and edits. Hosting systems may record technical information such as IP addresses, browser details, requested pages and errors. Business listing view totals are recorded to help businesses understand interest in their listing.
How we use information
We use information to publish and manage the directory, verify business ownership, send verification PINs and password reset messages, respond to requests, notify the administrator of registrations, maintain security and improve the website. Registering an account does not subscribe you to a marketing mailing list.
Public business listings
Published business details, photographs and promotions are visible to visitors and may appear in search engines. Listing managers can choose whether their contact email, phone number, address and website are public. Account credentials and verification PINs are not published. Information submitted through a claim or removal request is used for administration rather than displayed as part of the listing.
Some unclaimed listings are compiled from publicly available business information and official websites, including homepage captures. If a listing is inaccurate or you want it removed, use our listing request form. Please allow up to 72 hours for a reply.
Cookies and Google Analytics
Essential session cookies support sign-in, security and forms. Durham Central uses Google Analytics (measurement ID G-HJGSB2NSWJ) to understand website usage. Google Analytics can use cookies and collect information about visited pages, interactions, browser and device characteristics and approximate location. Your browser sends technical information to Google when its scripts load.

External websites, trailers and advertising
Business websites, municipal resources, ticketing pages and other external links have their own privacy practices. Playing an embedded YouTube trailer can share technical information with Google and YouTube and may involve cookies. If Google advertising is displayed, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to deliver and measure ads. Advertising choices are available through Google My Ad Center.
Service providers and storage
Information is handled through our hosting, email and analytics providers as needed to operate the website. These providers may process information outside Canada, where different laws may apply. Administrators can access information needed to maintain accounts and listings. We may also disclose information when required by law or to address fraud, abuse or security incidents.
Retention and security
Account and listing information is retained while needed to operate the directory. Verification PINs expire; administrative, security and backup records may remain after a listing changes or is removed. Retention depends on the purpose of the record and operational requirements. We use measures including password hashing, account verification and restricted administration access, but no online service can guarantee complete security.
Your choices and contacting us
You can update your listing and contact visibility through your business account. To request access, correction or deletion of your information, or ask a privacy question, email info@momentsofmagic.com. We may need to verify your identity before making account changes. Removing content from Durham Central does not immediately remove copies held by search engines or other websites.
